I’m thinking of going Pro myself at the moment……. the current 2 cameras I wish I had the money for are the:
Nikon D200

and the Fuji S3 Pro
Both of which are listed at Steve-digicams.com under the category “Best DSLR’s $1000-2000″
I noticed at UK camera sales site that the Fuji costs around £660 compared to about £800+ for the Nikon, however.

As for equipment, not sure in that department…….. but I’d have thought a Tripod, lighting kit, some sort of background screen thingying (if doing portraits) + something for your victi….. erm, clients to sit on (like a stool or something)

most pro’s that I know have changed over to Canon digital I’m not sure which model, but for portraits the full frame sensor seems to be the trend. The lens is the most important part.
in the studio stick with the name brand pro series for your camera. Good luck

You have a great starter camera…. I am partial to Canon.

Small studio…. 3 lights; hair/backgroung light, main light and side or half stop light. Assortment of muslin backdrops homemade.
a few props, posing stool, bench or sofa. and high ceilings with all walls painted black.

With digital you nee to concentrate on the quality of your lens and the MP of the camera. Use zoom as often as possible.

If you get into digital 4×5 you will be spending a large amount of money. If you want film 4×5 consider a used camera and go digital later by changing the back Sinar is the only one that I know that makes a Digital back. you will also need flash equipment.

I don’t know what type of photos you want to shoot. I would definately get a digital slr. The cheaper ones you can get for around $500. If you want to go professional you would probably be dissatisfied. I really want a Nikon D200. A bit less than $2000 but a real nice camera. Metal body and is a professional camera in everything but price. Another very good camera is the Fuji S3 pro. If you wait a bit they are coming out with the S5 pro which copies the metal body of the Nikon, but the Fuji has a better Digital Image Sensor which gives better range of the highlights and shadows. (dynamic range) I also prefer Fuji’s colors. I had one of their older cameras and their color rendition is beautiful.

what abt sony? or maybe u can call soome famous existing studios and get some info of them. (bullshit if u have too. ) anyways it’ll be easy to get there numbers off of the net.
